How to change your Shopify store colors and fonts to a new brand

New brand colors or a new logo means updating the whole store: buttons, backgrounds, headings, the cart. Shopify themes keep most of this in theme settings, so one change can reach every page.

Updated October 10, 2026. Steps checked on the Dawn and Horizon themes.

Do it yourself in the theme editor

Dawn

  1. Open Online Store > Themes, click Edit theme and open Theme settings.
  2. In Colors, edit the color schemes with your brand colors. Each section uses one scheme.
  3. In Typography, click Change to pick a headings font and a body font from Shopify’s font library.
  4. Check the color scheme of each section and save.

Horizon

  1. In Theme settings > Colors, set your brand colors in the color palette.
  2. Check the colors of buttons, badges and drawers in their own settings.
  3. In Typography, choose your body, subheading, heading and accent fonts.
  4. Go through each section: a color set on a section wins over the palette.

Where the theme editor falls short

  • The font picker only offers Shopify’s font library: you can’t upload your own font file there.
  • Sections with their own colors don’t follow the theme settings, so you find and fix them one by one.
  • Getting every page consistent takes time: buttons, badges, the cart and pop-ups each have their own settings.

Or ask Yef

Yef is an AI developer built for Shopify themes, and you don’t need any technical skills to use it. You write the change in plain words and see what it will do, and Yef applies it to a draft of your store that you try before anything goes live.

You write

Change the store to our new brand: cream background, forest green for buttons and links, and a serif for headings like the one in our logo. Apply it on every page, including the cart and pop-ups.

You get

Your colors and fonts across every page in one request, set in theme settings so you can keep editing them. You try the whole store on a draft before it goes live.

Questions

Will changing colors break my theme?

No. Colors and fonts live in theme settings. To be safe, work on a copy: Online Store > Themes > ⋯ > Duplicate, then Preview before you publish.

Can I use my own font?

Not from the font picker: it only offers Shopify’s font library. Using your own font file needs a change to your theme’s code.
